About the Team

OpenAI’s People team aims to hire, engage, and retain world-class talent who will safely build and deploy universally beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The People Systems team is an important subset of People Operations and is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing our HR technology to support a rapidly growing employee population.

About the Role

We are excited to hire an experienced Workday Integrations Engineer who will design and implement automated workflows across our HR systems landscape and work closely with our People Innovations (SWE) team. This partnership is crucial to designing systems that give our teams a significant edge by infusing OpenAI’s models and first-principles thinking into every aspect of our internal work. Collaborative projects range from greenfield 0 -> 1 products like OpenHouse ( internal knowledge hub) to AI-powered automations and scalable recruiting tools.

You’ll bring deep expertise in building and maintaining Workday integrations at scale. You should excel in problem-solving, requirements gathering, and engaging with stakeholders to drive improvements. You will supercharge our ability to deploy technical solutions quickly and ensure that our integrations are built with the security and robustness we owe our HR data. This role reports to our Head of People Systems.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Designing and deploying robust Workday integrations across domains like payroll, comp, performance, and case management.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners in People, Finance, and Engineering to scope, build, and test end-to-end solutions.

  • Maintaining and optimizing existing integrations, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.

  • Contributing to future-facing AI software development by integrating HR systems with internal tools and platforms.

  • Establishing integration standards and best practices to scale with OpenAI’s rapid growth.

We’re Seeking:

  • 5–10 years of hands-on Workday experience (EIB, Studio, Cloud Connect, Workday Extend, etc.)

  • Strong hands-on experience in Workday technologies: Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Advanced Report Writer, Cloud Connect (PICOF, PECI, CCW, CCB), Business Process Framework, Configurable Security, Calculated Fields, Custom fields, XML/XSLT, Studio, BIRT Reporting & data analytics, Workday Extend.

  • Proven ability to partner with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience integrating with other HR, Finance, or business systems.

  • Familiarity with secure design practices and scalable architecture.

Location and Workplace

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ or remote in the United States. Regular travel will be required for remote employees and we highly encourage candidates to consider relocating. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Our offices use a hybrid work model: three days in the office per week with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our open-plan offices have height-adjustable desks, conference rooms, phone booths, well-stocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks, three in-house prepared meals daily, a private outdoor space for working in the sun or socializing, nap rooms, private bike storage, and more.
