Location/Division Specific Information
Our global Clinical Operations colleagues within our PPD® clinical research services provide end-to-end support for clinical trials from study start up to monitoring through to study close out, across commercial and government contracts. Together, we help clients define and develop clinical programs, minimize delays, and execute high-quality, cost-efficient clinical studies.
Discover Impactful Work:
Performs a wide variety of clinical laboratory analyses including assays which define complicated disorders of the cardiovascular, endocrine, hematological, hemostatic, thrombolytic, and renal systems. Integrates analytical results with specific and highly varied clinical trial protocols and evaluates the credibility, appropriateness, and accuracy of test results in order to facilitate entry or exclusion of subjects from research programs.
A day in the Life:
- Performs, reviews, and interprets complex and routine analyses by manual, automated, and/or microscopic means.
- Evaluates individual and related laboratory data to recognize patterns or trends that suggest significance of results.
- Operates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs clinical laboratory equipment, including routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, and safety checks. Recognizes and pursues instrument problems and resolutions.
- Evaluates analytical reagents, calibrators, and QC standards to ensure the accuracy of analytical results. Evaluates quality control procedures, evaluates results, and implements corrective action when indicated. Assists in carrying out ongoing statistical data analysis to detect trends and problems and undertakes corrective action.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualificatio

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge in medical science and medical laboratory procedures that includes hematology, chemistry, immunochemistry and urinalysis
- Ability to work with multiple instruments and information systems found in the lab and clinic environment
- Critical thinking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Work is performed in a laboratory and/or a clinical environment with routine exposure to biological, infectious and chemical hazards, electrical equipment.
- Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves.
- Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures (refrigeration and freezer equipment)
- Constant exposure to high pressure, intense concentration needed. Must pay constant attention to detail-visual, mental.
- Must be able to multi-task constantly.
- Rotating shifts for holiday/weekend coverage is required .
- Frequent interaction with clients/associates.
- Long, varied hours required occasionally.
- Ability to work in an upright and /or stationary position for 6-8 hours per day.
- Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment.
- Occasional mobility needed.
- Occasional crouching, stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
- Light to heavy lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 50 lbs.
- Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups.
- Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.
