Bumble is seeking an experienced Backend Platform Architect to design, develop, and guide the evolution of our backend systems. As a key technical leader, you will create scalable platform architectures, ensure system reliability, and collaborate across teams to deliver innovative solutions.

What you'll do:

Define and own the architecture of backend systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
Work hands-on with the team to build and deliver the solutions you design to our customers
Guide development teams in implementing best practices, modern frameworks, and architectural standards
Communicate, evangelise and influence across technical teams as well as executive leadership
Partner with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs
Design systems to handle high-traffic loads, ensure low latency, and support future growth
Leverage cloud platforms and cloud native design to optimize infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment processes
Implement robust security measures and ensure systems adhere to industry compliance standards
Support and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and technical excellence

About you:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
8+ years in backend development with 3+ years in an architecture or technical leadership role
Deep knowledge of backend languages such as PHP, Java, Python, Go, or Node.js
Proficiency in designing RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures
Strong understanding of databases (SQL, NoSQL) and distributed systems
Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance optimization techniques
Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
Demonstrated ability to lead projects, influence architectural decisions, and work with a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong business acumen and a strategic mindset are critical
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Fluency in English is required
Thrive in fast-moving environments where priorities shift, and you know how to balance speed, quality, and long-term scalability
