About the Team
The Strategic Finance team is responsible for some of the largest investment categories at OpenAI. Our mission is to maximize long-term enterprise value by enabling rigorous, data-driven decision-making. We partner closely with Product, Engineering, Go-To-Market, and Finance to build scalable, automated data products that surface the insights leaders need to allocate resources, assess investments, and guide OpenAI’s growth.
About the Role
We are looking for a Business Intelligence & Automation Lead who is obsessed with building automated, scalable data products to democratize access to insights across Strategic Finance and beyond. This person will serve as the technical foundation for insight delivery, transforming fragmented workflows into clean, reliable, and powerful data products and intelligent agents that drive strategic decisions at scale.
As one of the founding members of this vertical, you will define our BI architecture, own core data pipelines and semantic layers, and build dashboards, agent workflows, and automated reporting systems that surface business-critical insights. You’ll partner with Data Science, Finance, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams and, uniquely, you will have the opportunity to harness OpenAI’s internal agentic infrastructure to prototype and deploy AI agents that automate complex financial processes.
This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance.
In this role, you will:
Build and own the architecture for self-serve and automated insight delivery — from data pipelines to dashboards, alerts, and agents.
Design and deploy agentic solutions using OpenAI’s internal tools to automate financial workflows such as daily pacing updates and forecast variance explanations.
Create scalable and reusable dashboards to support forecasting, LTV analysis, pricing, investment decisions, and KPI reporting.
Develop data tools and intelligent agents that unlock self-serve access to core company metrics across business units.
Translate ambiguous business needs into technical solutions that are resilient, extensible, and intuitive.
Define and enforce data quality standards, governance best practices, and documentation.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have 6+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, BI Development, or a hybrid DS/DE role at a high-growth or high-scale company.
Are fluent in SQL and Python or another scripting language for automation.
Have deep experience with BI tools like Tableau, Looker, or equivalent (e.g. designing scalable semantic layers and metric definitions).
Are excited by the opportunity to build agents that automate manual financial and reporting processes and want to be at the forefront of using OpenAI’s own technologies to do so.
Understand financial and operational metrics deeply and have worked closely with FP&A or Strategic Finance teams.
Take initiative and ownership over the full lifecycle of data systems, tools, and agents.
Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating insight into impact.
Thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and love solving foundational problems.
