Title: Senior Analyst - Power and Renewables (Southeast Asia)

The Team: 

S&P Global is looking to recruit a high-caliber analyst with a deep interest in the future evolution of the global energy sector to join our fast-growing Asia Pacific team. Based in Penang, Malaysia, this role sits at the core of the Asia-Pacific gas and power team which delivers regular retainer and consulting services to a wide client base. The team is part of the Research & Analytics Solutions group that allows S&P Global to deliver unrivaled insights into the future direction of global energy markets.

The Southeast Asia gas/power research team operates within the S&P Global Commodity Insights Research & Analytics Solutions group. The team is dedicated to providing forward-looking market analysis and delivering impactful insights to clients through comprehensive written reports, advanced analytics and direct client engagement.

Role The Analyst will work on various tasks involving preparation of the power and renewables database and prepare insights. He/she will lead a team of four research analysts based in Penang, and be responsible to produce accurate, timely and analytical deliverables and work closely with research analysts in Singapore.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth market and data research on transactions on power and renewable energy projects and tenders.
  • Manage data collection and verification on power-related information including investment and costs, prices and demand and supply.
  • Analyze power demand and supply through data collection, modeling and quantitative analysis to create critical insights on market trends, policy direction and company-level strategies.
  • Lead a team of data analysts in the Penang office and liaise closely with the manager located in Singapore.
  • Be single point of contact for power and renewable coverage on assigned Southeast Asian country in close collaboration with other teams.
  • Undertake research into emerging market trends, policies or technologies in the power sector.
  • Work with other teams to develop long term outlooks for the demand, supply and cost of power and renewables.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant areas including economics, business, and engineering. Preference given to advanced degree holders.
  • Three to seven years of experience in power, renewables, or gas industry through employment with consultancy, research, power and utilities, financial services and/or equipment and service company.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Asia power and renewables markets, especially Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam are desirable.
  • Experience in data analytics, databases, data transformation, information sciences, statistical analysis or similar.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel for data analysis and modeling
  • Verbal and written fluency in English is essential, fluency in Indonesia, Thai or Vietnamese is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
