Disney Entertainment (DE) is one of the three major business segments of The Walt Disney Company, consisting of Disney's entertainment media and content businesses, including its motion picture film studios, Disney General Entertainment Content, streaming services, and international media businesses.  

 

The primary role of the Content Planning & Analysis team is providing analytical strategy support for and valuation of Disney’s content licensing and original content decisions. The team works cross-functionally across Disney Entertainment (DE) segment finance teams, direct-to-consumer strategy, data analytics, research, operations, marketing, and programming to translate DTC data (Disney+, Hulu, Hotstar, and Star+) into financial decisions regarding the production and acquisition of shows and films. The team works closely with senior leadership to provide strategic insights and help inform critical business decisions for the streaming and content businesses. 

Job Summary: 

The Analyst, Content Planning & Analysis will be responsible for analytically evaluating investment and performance of the content on the various Disney Streaming platforms (Disney+, Hulu) and across multiple distribution windows. This role will work on projects involving different content categories/genres and portfolio level analyses, content engagement, third party licensing deal valuations, distribution and windowing decisions, and executive-level reporting for leaders in Disney Entertainment Television (DET). The role will also contribute to the development and application of analytical methodologies and KPI tracking, for evaluating the performance of content. The Content Planning & Analysis team collaborates closely with stakeholders from Disney Entertainment Television (DET), and with finance, strategy, data analytics, research, operational marketing and scheduling teams from each respective brand/studio. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role: 

  • Conducting analyses of title-level and portfolio content performance (generally using Excel to manipulate and interpret large sets of data)  - 40% 

  • Creating presentations that summarize analyses about title expectations and performance, and insights on portfolio/brand/genre performance - 15% 

  • Building models to inform deal valuations, greenlight decisions, and windowing strategies - 30% 

  • Developing and updating title performance forecasts - 15% 

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training: 

  • 4-year degree in relevant fields  

  • At least 1 year of work experience preferably in finance/strategy roles at media /technology companies, or other quantitative fields 

  • Highly analytical and strong, effective communicators who can also thrive in fast-paced and high-pressure environments 

  • Possess intellectual curiosity, focus on generating results and exhibit the highest personal and professional standards of integrity 

  • Must be motivated, disciplined, flexible, and be able to work effectively in collaborative and autonomous environments 

  • High aptitude and enthusiasm for complex problem solving utilizing financial modeling and analysis, including highly advanced Excel modeling skills  

  • Familiarity with statistical concepts and analysis 

  • Fluency in building visualizations of complex data sets 

  • Effective at writing, facilitating, and presenting analyses, and proficient with PowerPoint slide building  

  • High EQ and professional maturity, with demonstrated ability to engage at an executive level 

  • Demonstrated interest in the entertainment and/or tech industries 

  • Prior experience in Media/Entertainment is a plus, but not a prerequisite. 

The hiring range for this position in Greater Los Angeles is $94,200 to $115,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
